Join Merkl as a Software Engineer – Help Shape the Future of Onchain Incentives
💼 Job Title
Software Engineer (Merkl)
🥨 About Merkl
Merkl is the infrastructure for onchain money streaming and distribution. Stablecoin issuers, fintechs, neobanks, tokenized funds, and DeFi protocols use Merkl to calculate and send yield, dividends, rewards, and payouts across 60+ chains. Since launching in July 2023, we've distributed over $1.8B, work with 1000+ companies, and have sent rewards to 5M+ unique wallets.
We power distributions for leading names in crypto and fintech, including Coinbase, PayPal, Robinhood, Kraken, MetaMask, Uniswap, Aave, Morpho, Ethena, Sky, Euler, 1inch, and Trezor, and run chain-wide programs for Plasma, World Chain, Optimism, Robinhood Chain, and more. Many of our clients, like Morpho, initially built their own reward systems in-house before switching to Merkl, because we're faster, cheaper, and more flexible.
You may have already used Merkl without knowing it: we power products like Robinhood Earn and provide white-label solutions embedded in major frontends like Uniswap and Trust Wallet.
In short, we enable the seamless distribution of value to any onchain behavior, while giving 200K+ monthly active users access to the best opportunities across 20,000+ campaigns through the Merkl App. We move fast, integrate in days, and with exciting announcements on the horizon, we're looking for a Software Engineer to help us maintain that momentum and reinforce our team of superbuilders 💪🛠️
We're waiting for you to build the next phase of Merkl!
💪Team
Merkl is a small team of 20 people. If you join the team, you will not only learn with and from us but also be deeply involved in product design and the research we are conducting. In a team this size, there's no hiding behind tickets, you'll own product surfaces used by 200K+ monthly users and integrated by Coinbase, Uniswap, and Trust Wallet
📍 Location
🥖 Paris (Hybrid)
🔎 Why this Role exists
We want an engineer who takes a problem and a proposed direction from the PM, challenges it when something doesn't make sense, then owns the full execution from UX details, interactions, API, deployment, without needing hand-holding at every step.
You're the person who pushes back on a solution when you see a better way. You're also the person who, once aligned, ships the whole thing end-to-end with polish. You care about craft and you ship fast.
🛠 Missions & Responsibilities
As a Software Engineer at Merkl, you will be at the heart of our product’s evolution. You will be on the lead for the implementation of our different frontend interfaces, whether they are hosted by us or on our clients websites.
Specifically, your responsibilities will include:
- Implement stunning, functional frontend interfaces based on designs from Figma, ensuring pixel-perfect execution and seamless integration.
- Work creatively to build innovative features even without detailed design specs, taking ownership of the user experience.
- Integrate with backend systems and APIs, ensuring smooth data flow and flawless feature performance across platforms.
- Collaborate closely with Product Managers and Designers to translate product requirements into intuitive, high-performance frontend features.
- Debug and troubleshoot issues across both frontend and backend, with a solid understanding of backend systems, allowing you to resolve issues without relying heavily on other developers.
- Optimize performance for fast, responsive web applications, ensuring a smooth user experience across all devices and platforms.
- Work in a cross-functional team with designers, PMs, and backend developers to deliver high-quality features on time.
- Stay up to date with the latest trends in frontend development, bringing fresh ideas and solutions to the table.

🧙♂️ You are
You’re a skilled and passionate engineer who thrives in fast-paced, innovative environments. We’re looking for someone who is:
- Autonomous and opinionated. You don't need a detailed spec to start building. You have opinions about what good UX looks like and you're not afraid to push back on a design or propose an alternative.
- Passionate about creating seamless user experiences. You care about the details that separate a product that works from a product that feels great.
- A strong executor with opinions. You take direction well, but you're not passive. When a proposed solution has a flaw, you flag it and offer an alternative. Once aligned, you execute with speed and quality without needing check-ins at every step.
- A fast learner and problem-solver: You are intellectually curious, can quickly grasp new technologies and concepts, and have a knack for finding innovative solutions to complex UX and UI issues.
- Driven by data and startup values: You iterate quickly, love testing new ideas (even the most unconventional ones), and are excited to implement them.
- Collaborative: You work well in a small, agile team where everyone’s contributions are valued.
- Passionate about innovation and impact: You are driven by pushing new ideas, concepts, and products to broad market adoption.
- Genuinely interested in DeFi. You use DeFi products. You've provided liquidity, used a lending protocol, or at least explored what's out there. You don't need a 3-month onboarding to understand what Merkl does.
📖 You have
- 3+ years of experience in frontend development, with a strong portfolio of production-ready web applications.
- Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Typescript and modern frontend frameworks (React, Vue.js, Angular, etc.).
- Expertise in implementing designs from Figma into functional, responsive web applications.
- Creative problem-solving skills, with the ability to build features from scratch without detailed design specs.
- Familiarity with backend technologies (Node.js, Python, etc.) and the ability to debug and troubleshoot issues across both frontend and backend.
- Experience with API integration (RESTful APIs, GraphQL, etc.) and working with backend teams to ensure smooth data flow.
- Strong attention to detail and a passion for delivering high-quality, polished user experiences.
- A collaborative mindset, with the ability to communicate and work effectively with both design and backend teams.
Bonus:
- Experience with performance optimization (e.g., lazy loading, caching, etc.) to ensure fast load times.
- Familiarity with DevOps tools or CI/CD pipelines to streamline the development process.
- Basic knowledge of blockchain or DeFi concepts, particularly in building frontend experiences for blockchain-based applications.
- Experience with testing frameworks (Jest, Cypress), or state management libraries (Redux, Zustand).
