How Cosign works
Frequently asked questions
Cosign combines attributable professional endorsements, Community lists, private connections, and company identities. These answers explain the parts that are not immediately visible.
What is a Cosign?
A Cosign is an attributable professional endorsement. It says what you trust someone for and can include the specific experience behind that judgment. It is different from a like, which only reacts to a feed post, and from adding someone to a list.
Cosigns are public once approved and appear with the cosigner’s identity. You can edit your own Cosign later.
How do Community lists work?
A Community list begins with a question. Members add and Cosign people or companies, and the combined responses form a permanent shared list. Ordered lists use those responses to determine rank; solo lists remain unordered.
The person who creates a Community list owns its framing, while the community supplies its membership and standing.
What happens when I select Privately Signal?
You can privately signal that you would hire, work with, fund, take funding from, or meet someone. The recipient cannot see which signals you chose unless they have also privately signaled interest in you.
Any reciprocal combination creates a connection and opens a private conversation. Messages can be blocked from the conversation.
How do company profiles and accounts work?
Creating a company profile adds the organization to Cosign. Use its official X account when it has one, or its official website when it does not. Cosign uses that source for its name, logo, website, and identity. Creating the profile does not give you control of it.
A company can be claimed by signing in with its official X account. A founder using a personal account can instead request founder verification from a current Founder experience on their profile. Once approved, founders and company admins can switch between their personal identity and the company from the profile menu.
Company owners and verified founders can manage company admins. Company mode has its own posts, lists, connections, notifications, funding information, and profile actions.
What do claimed and unclaimed profiles mean?
A claimed profile belongs to someone who has signed in and connected their identity. An unclaimed profile was assembled from public information, lists, or Cosigns. The person can claim it by signing in with the matching account.
How does moderation work?
New posts, Community-list questions, comments, and Cosigns may be checked before publication. Automated review catches obvious spam, abuse, and unsafe content; uncertain cases can be held for human review rather than silently published or discarded.
Moderation checks whether content can appear on Cosign. Approval does not mean Cosign endorses the statement or verifies every opinion in it.
How is the feed ordered?
Feed ordering starts with when the underlying event happened, then considers engagement and the reputation of its subject. Lists, Talent Watch, Funding Watch, and member activity receive no automatic advantage merely because of their type.
Talent Watch and Funding Watch are automated research products, not official announcements from the people or companies shown.
Where does profile and company information come from?
Cosign combines information people and companies publish themselves with public sources, attributable Cosigns, and Community-list activity. Research-backed company and profile sections link to supporting sources where available.
How current is information on Cosign?
Profiles and lists reflect their latest published edits and community activity. Job listings are refreshed from company job boards. Funding data and automated research include source and timing context where available and should be checked against the linked primary source before making a decision.
How do email preferences work?
New accounts begin with message, daily recap, weekly recap, and product-update emails enabled. You can change any category fromEmail preferences. Every Cosign email includes the same link.
Where can I learn about privacy and account terms?
Read the privacy policy and terms of service.
