Lumi

Lumi is the K-12 writing and literacy platform founded by Colin Kaepernick. Students plan, draft, revise, and publish real writing with an AI guide that coaches instead of writing for them, and teachers and district leaders see growth as it happens. We work with 15 districts and growing. We are a small, senior team, remote across the US, and we hire people who want to own a problem end to end.

About the role

You’ll own a portfolio of K-12 district partnerships from kick off through helping schools use Lumi to advance their writing priorities. It’s a hands-on, high-touch role: building close relationships, visiting classrooms, and recognizing when a district needs more support. On our lean team, you’ll work closely with the District Success Lead and Professional Learning Partner with a direct line to Product and Engineering to help shape Lumi as we grow. We’re looking for someone resourceful and quick to act who cares deeply about writing and about helping every student develop and share their stories.

Onboarding and implementation

‍– Own every step of pre-kick off planning and launch readiness, including confirming rostering and technical set up, key stakeholders, and curriculum resources
– Lead district kick off and curriculum alignment conversations with district teams, translating their writing priorities into a clear success plan with shared goals
– Co-lead live onboarding alongside the Professional Learning Partner, ensuring administrators and teachers leave prepared to bring Lumi into their classrooms

Relationship management

‍– Manage district success plans, refining goals and actions through regular reviews and reflection calls
– Develop and monitor engagement plans and district health, following up quickly when signals indicate additional support is needed
– Represent the voice of the district in weekly company meetings, sharing how partners engage with Lumi in the classroom and closing feedback loops with Product and Engineering
– Partner with districts to design and coordinate celebrations of student writing, from classroom story shares to districtwide showcases

Retention and expansion

‍– Partner with sales to identify district health risks early, surface district context, and carry out plans with urgency
– Recognize expansion opportunities through district goals and classroom use, documenting and communicating progress frequently with sales
– Cultivate district advocates by creating opportunities for partners to learn from one another and gathering references, feedback, and stories of impact

Must-haves

‍– Experience managing relationships with K-12 school districts of different sizes and levels of complexity
– Experience working at an early-stage startup and comfort building processes while priorities evolve
– Strong technical fluency, including a desire to build AI skills and use AI tools in daily workstreams

What We Value

‍– Ownership: You take pride in leading projects from start to finish, ensuring high-quality execution and satisfaction for all stakeholders.
– Communication: You excel in building trust through clear, transparent, and empathetic communication with schools and internal teams.
– Adaptability: You thrive in dynamic environments, solving challenges creatively and proactively to meet user needs.
– Focus: You prioritize initiatives that deliver the most significant impact, ensuring alignment with district goals and Lumi’s mission.
– Excellence: You hold yourself to the highest standard, delivering results that inspire and exceed expectations.

‍– Salary range: $90,000 - $120,000
– Equity range: 0.02% - 0.06%
