John Preskill is the Richard P. Feynman Professor of Theoretical Physics at Caltech, Director of Caltech's Institute for Quantum Information and Matter, and a member of Oratomic's founding team as Senior Scientist. He joined the Caltech faculty in 1983 after a Junior Fellowship and faculty appointments at Harvard, founded Caltech's Institute for Quantum Information in 2000, and served as an Amazon Scholar at the AWS Center for Quantum Computing from 2020 to 2026. He coined the term NISQ in his 2018 paper "Quantum Computing in the NISQ era and beyond." He holds an A.B. in physics from Princeton (1975) and a Ph.D. in physics from Harvard (1980), is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, and received the John Stewart Bell Prize in 2024.
