Will DePue is back at OpenAI, where he is starting a new team with Troy and Eric Luhman focused on a high-risk research bet toward superintelligence. During his first stint at OpenAI, from July 2023 into 2026, he worked on post-training for GPT-4o, o3, o4-mini and GPT-5, led OpenAI's response to the GPT-4o sycophancy issue, and was a core contributor to Sora and Sora 2. Before OpenAI he co-founded and ran DeepResearch (altr.fyi), which Commsor acquired in February 2022, and founded thrive.fyi. He also built projects including WebGPT, the Alexandria Index and Hyperlocal through InternetActivism. Born in Seattle, he studied computer science at the University of Michigan before going on leave, and graduated as salutatorian of Geffen Academy at UCLA.
