Product Engineer (Customer-Facing)

About the role

About Merlin AI

Merlin AI is building the intelligent ERP for the US construction industry. From sales and estimating to procurement, operations, and finance, Merlin connects every part of the workflow into one AI-native platform. We’re backed by Y Combinator and top-tier investors, and we’re already powering operations at innovative construction companies across the U.S.

About the Role

We’re hiring a Product Engineer who can directly own and drive customer success—from onboarding to revenue realization.
This is not a traditional engineering role focused on isolated features or components. It’s a high-agency, high-ownership role where you will work directly with customers, understand their operations, and ensure they go live successfully on Merlin AI. You’ll own the roadmap for your accounts, write production-grade code, and lead implementation, training, and support—end to end.
You are the bridge between what the customer needs and what the product becomes. When your customers succeed, we win.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the onboarding and implementation journey for new customers
• Map messy real-world workflows to product modules and clean software logic
• Configure and customize Merlin AI to customer-specific needs
• Prioritize and ship features that unblock go-live and maximize impact
• Lead training sessions and support users throughout the adoption curve
• Translate field insights into high-leverage product roadmap decisions
• Debug issues, unblock problems, and ship code across the stack
• Track usage, adoption, and tie your success to revenue realization
• Publish and drive your own product roadmap quarterly

What Makes This Role Unique

At Merlin AI, Product Engineers don’t own components—they own outcomes.
You’re not measured by pull requests or ticket throughput, but by the real-world results you drive.
The entire codebase is your playground, and your mission is to solve customer problems—wherever they live. Whether it’s backend, UI, AI logic, or even writing documentation or emails, you do what it takes to get things done.
Each quarter, you’ll define what key capabilities you’re going to ship, why they matter, and what metric you’re going to move. Then you’ll launch, train, support, and iterate—owning the entire cycle.
This role combines engineering, product, customer success, and leadership in one.

Who You Are

You’re a super-resolver—a rare mix of builder, communicator, operator, and owner. You take pride in making customers successful, and you’re not afraid of getting your hands dirty across product and process.
You are:

• Fluent in English, and a clear, confident communicator
• A strong coder who can ship clean, fast production code (full-stack preferred)
• Product-minded—you can see what users need even before they say it
• Self-managing—you don’t wait for direction, you set your own goals
• Detail-oriented and always organized—your customers can rely on you
• High bias for action—you move quickly, unblock yourself, and escalate smartly
• Breadth + depth—you can zoom out to think across systems, and dive in to debug
• Obsessed with customer outcomes—you want to be on calls, solving real pain
• Excited about ambiguity—you love creating clarity where none exists
• A natural leader—you drive your silo, not wait for someone to assign work

You treat success like it’s your business—because it is.

What to Expect

We’re solving deep, messy problems in one of the world’s most overlooked but high-impact industries. It’s not easy—but it’s worth it.

• Expect customers to call you at odd hours—because they trust you
• Expect some to become your friends—because you're that embedded
• Expect 70-hour work weeks—because you care deeply
• Expect to own and lead your part of the product
• Expect to do everything needed to get a customer live
• Expect zero hand-holding—you will be treated as a leader
• Expect chaos, speed, scrappiness, and deep fulfillment

You’ll get to say, “I built that from the ground up”—and mean it.

Who This Is Not For

You won’t enjoy this role if:

• You avoid customer conversations or find them distracting
• You wait for specs or need someone to break down your tasks
• You only want to code and avoid business context
• You struggle to manage time or priorities independently
• You want a cushy, comfortable role with clear swim lanes
• You want to do your part and hand it off—this is full-stack ownership
