Earn while you learn and help power New Zealand's future with Ventia

Are you looking for a rewarding career that combines hands-on work, technical learning, and the opportunity to work on some of New Zealand's most critical infrastructure?

Ventia is seeking motivated and enthusiastic Apprentice Electricians to join our team working on Transmission, Generation, and Heavy Industrial projects. This is your chance to gain a nationally recognised qualification while working alongside experienced tradespeople on a diverse range of electrical projects across the energy sector.

Whether you're a recent school leaver, looking for a career change, or have some trade experience and want to formalise your skills, we'd love to hear from you.

What's in it for you?

• Earn while you learn through a structured electrical apprenticeship
• Receive on-the-job training and formal industry qualifications
• Work on critical infrastructure that keeps New Zealand connected and powered
• Gain experience across transmission networks, power generation facilities, and heavy industrial sites
• Learn from experienced electricians, technicians, and industry leaders
• Access long-term career opportunities within a leading infrastructure services company
• Travel and work across a variety of sites and locations

About the role

As an Apprentice Electrician, you'll work as part of a supportive team while developing the technical skills and knowledge required to become a qualified electrician.

Your duties will include:

• Assisting with the installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of electrical equipment
• Supporting work on substations, generation assets, and industrial electrical systems
• Learning and applying safe work practices and industry standards
• Participating in both practical on-site training and formal coursework
• Contributing to a positive team culture with a strong focus on safety

About you

We're looking for people who are:

• Passionate about starting a career in the electrical industry
• Reliable, motivated, and eager to learn
• Strong communicators who enjoy working in a team environment
• Comfortable working outdoors and in varying weather conditions
• Committed to completing an apprenticeship programme
• Safety-focused with a positive attitude
• Hold a Full Class 1 Driver Licence (preferred)
• No previous electrical experience is required, although any trade, mechanical, or technical experience will be advantageous.

Selection Process

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an interview, complete a basic Maths and English assessment, and take part in a practical hands-on activity. We're looking for potential, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn, not prior electrical experience
