About us
We’re automating homebuilding. Construction is one of the least automated industries in the world, and homes are still built largely by hand, in slow, expensive and fragmented processes. AUAR is a physical AI and robotics company changing that.
Our software platform, MasterBuilder, turns a building design into the instructions needed to manufacture a home’s timber structure. Our robotic MicroFactory then deploys directly onto a homebuilder’s site and produces the wall, floor and roof panels they need, on demand. It arrives in a shipping container, sits on a footprint of max 30 by 30 ft and runs off generators on a gravel pad: no grid connection, no permanent site works. We own and run the equipment, our customers buy the panels it produces, not the machine.
We’re past pure R&D and shipping our first commercial MicroFactories this year, across the UK, Europe and North America. Backed by Planet A, PT1, Shadow Ventures and ABB Robotics, we’re a team of around 40 engineers, roboticists, operators and designers working from an 11,000 sq ft R&D and demonstration facility in London. The systems we build now will decide how homes are manufactured at scale.
The role
We're looking for an electrical engineer to take ownership of day-to-day electrical build on our robotic MicroFactory.
Every MicroFactory brings industrial robots, PLC-controlled mechanisms, sensors, drives and safety systems together in a machine that leaves our workshop and runs off generators on site. The hard part isn’t wiring one machine. It’s building every machine to the same standard, documenting it properly, and being able to fault-find it in the field.
Working alongside our Senior Electrical & Controls Engineer, you'll design, build, test and validate the systems that make the MicroFactory run. You'll take ownership of day-to-day electrical build, own design packages, support deployments, and make sure the work is done properly, safely and to standard.
This is a hands-on role with real responsibility. You'll work directly on machines that ship to real construction sites, and help shape how we build, test and document them as we scale production.
Problems you’ll work on
- Electrical build - Own day-to-day electrical build on the MicroFactory, from working with our panel builders through to wiring, testing and sign-off.
- Testing and validation - Define and run the tests that prove electrical systems and sub-systems meet build and safety requirements before a machine leaves the workshop.
- Deployment & field support - Commission, fault-find and keep MicroFactories running on customer sites.
- Design packages - Own electrical design packages and changes, keeping schematics and build documentation accurate so the next machine is built the same way. Support our Senior Electrical & Controls Engineer to drive standards forward
- Standards and safety - Raise build standards, drive H&S compliance during builds, and keep test equipment calibrated and maintained.
- Repeatability - Improve build quality, speed and repeatability as we move from building machines to producing them, and guide technicians and junior team members along the way.
- Engineering design. Own design packages to help improve our MicroFactory delivering design packages.
What good looks like
- In your first weeks, you understand the MicroFactory’s electrical architecture, have worked through a build alongside our Senior Electrical & Controls Engineer, and are working from our schematics and standards.
- Within your first month, you’re running day-to-day electrical build yourself, including the relationship with our panel builders.
- Within two months, you’re the first point of contact for electrical build and testing, and have supported a MicroFactory on site.
- Electrical build no longer depends on one person, and keeps moving through holidays and competing priorities.
- Machines leave the workshop tested, documented and matching their schematics.
- Recurring faults get documented and designed out, not fixed by hand each time.
Who this is for
You’re an electrical engineer who has built, wired and commissioned real automated machinery, and wants to apply that to robotics hardware that ends up on construction sites. You take pride in clean, safe, well-documented electrical work.
You’re at home in the workshop and on site, you own your work end to end, and you ask questions rather than wait to be told. You want your role to grow from build into design.
This isn’t for you if you want every task handed to you fully specified, if you’d rather design from a desk than get hands-on with a panel, or if your experience is installation only, without the testing, fault-finding and documentation side.
What we're looking for
- Hands-on electrical build: 3-5 years building, installing and commissioning electrical systems, in industrial automation or machine building rather than building services installation.
- Fault-finding: you independently troubleshoot and diagnose faults across electrical systems and sub-systems.
- Machine safety: solid working knowledge of machine safety requirements and standards such as BS 7671, BS EN 60204-1 and ISO 13849.
- Industrial controls: practical experience with PLC-controlled equipment (fault-finding, I/O checks, supporting commissioning) and industrial networks including EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT and IO-Link.
- Technical documentation: you read, work from and update electrical schematics, pneumatic schematics and GA drawings.
- Ownership: a track record of owning work end to end and delivering to deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Qualifications: HNC/HND in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, or a related degree.
Bonus if you have
- Experience producing drawings in Eplan P8 or a similar package
- Experience building or commissioning robotic cells
- Experience guiding technicians or junior engineers
What we offer
- Competitive salary based on experience + meaningful equity so we all grow together
- Private health and dental insurance via Bupa
- An 11,000 sq ft R&D and demonstration facility in E17, where you work alongside the machines you're building
- Hands-on exposure to robotics, automation and physical AI
- High autonomy, high accountability and a team that takes the mission seriously
Our values
- #ownyourmission - we take responsibility and execute with focus and urgency.
- #forpeopleandplanet - we strive to do the best for people and planet.
- #buildtogether - we succeed through deep collaboration with our team, partners and customers.
- #gooddesign - we centre good design in everything we do, holistically.
- #beboldberadical - we think creatively; we are ambitious, bold and radical.
Application process
We expect the full hiring process to take around 4-5 weeks, and we aim to be as transparent as possible throughout.
- Initial Application - a human will review your CV & full application
- Screening Call (30 mins, remote) - with James Morgan (Senior Electrical & Controls Engineer)
- Practical Working Session & Values Interview (~75 mins, in-person) - including a hands-on task, and a conversation about our Values
- Founder Interview - (30 mins, in-person) - with Gilles Retsin (CTPO & Co-founder)
This is a London role, 5 days a week in our E17 office. You’ll need the right to work in the UK. We can sponsor visas if you’re a standout candidate. If this is a fit, tell us, we’d rather hear from you than not.
We're proud that 50% of our technical team and 50% of our leadership are women. We believe great work comes from diverse perspectives, and we hire on potential as much as experience. If part of this role speaks to you, apply. Let's make housing better, together.
We are committed to creating an equitable, inclusive and diverse workplace. We intend to run an equal, fair and inclusive hiring process. If you feel there is any area we could improve, please let us know at info@auar.io.
