About the role
Director of D2C eCommerce, SmartAC
Reports to: VP of Marketing
Location: USA remote
Comp: TBD, competitive salary and benefits
What you'll own
Full ecommerce P&L across two channels to start, Amazon and our owned website, with potential expansion to retail partners, including the marketing strategy, deployment, and optimization behind each.
Owned website: Build our owned-website channel from scratch: platform, shopping experience, checkout, acquisition, conversion and retention. Online store launch targeted for Q4 2026, with Amazon and broader D2C advertising following.
Amazon: Set strategy for the Amazon channel, including Seller Central, Brand Registry, store setup, product detail page, and advertising. Manage our already-engaged agency partner and hold them accountable for performance, including listing optimization and promotions.
Conversion: Own ongoing conversion-rate optimization across the website and the Amazon listing.
Paid, influencer, and partnerships: Set strategy for D2C paid campaigns and manage agency partners, and lead influencer programs and strategic retail and marketplace partnerships.
Cross-functional: Work alongside our fully functioning B2B marketing team, who will support with material and assets, while you own D2C strategy and execution.
In your first 6-12 months you will:
Launch the smartac.com online store, including the shopping experience and checkout.
Stand up and optimize the Amazon listing with our agency partner.
Build the first acquisition and retention engine within agreed efficiency targets.
You're not optimizing an existing machine. You're building one and running both, backed by tech that's already proven itself in the field.
Who we're looking for
The experience:
8+ years in ecommerce, with direct, hands-on experience taking a D2C channel from near-zero to real revenue: picked the platform, built the first acquisition and retention engine, owned the budget when every dollar mattered.
You’ve owned Amazon as a channel and managed agencies across Amazon and paid media, holding them accountable to performance.
You’ve owned a stores’ day-to-day experience, including conversion, merchandising and promotions, and you know what moves a first-time buyer to checkout.
The person:
A builder at heart. You’re energized by starting from zero, and you’d rather set up the system than inherit one.
Scrappy and resourceful. You make smart calls with a responsible budget and a lean team.
Results-driven. You tie every dollar to an outcome, so you always know which channels, creators and campaigns are most impactful.
A strong partner. You work well across marketing, sales, product, and customer success, and treat agencies as an extension of the team.
A clear owner. You take full responsibility for the P&L and the results.
Customer-minded. You understand what it takes to sell a considered purchase to a homeowner, and you care about the experience after the sale.
This is a builder role, not a "managed a mature $40M program" role. If your resume is all inherited infrastructure and no scratch-build, this isn't the right fit.
Nice to have:
Connected-hardware or IoT ecommerce experience (smart home, wearables, hardware-plus-subscription).
Any considered-purchase, higher-AOV physical goods category is a strong fit too.
Influencer program experience
Retail or marketplace partnership experience
Lifecycle or retention experience
