About Tutor

We believe general-purpose, generally-intelligent robots will be built in our lifetimes. Robots will work in our factories, move our goods, walk on our streets and eventually be in our homes. To build that future, research and deployment must work in lockstep: real-world operation must make the technology better and better technology must make deployment easier. We're looking for the thinkers, builders, and researchers who want to be part of that loop.   As an AI robotics company that deploys its inventions directly into the facilities that need them, on state-of-the-art hardware, every line of code written at Tutor has a direct impact on the global, physical economy.

Culture

We believe that something truly special can happen when talented, motivated people work together; at Tutor, every member of our team is empowered to have real impact in everything that they do. We’re characterized by both technical excellence and next-level collaboration and respect.

Job Overview

We are seeking a focused and reliable VR Robot Operator to remotely control robotic systems using a virtual reality headset and handheld controllers. The operator will complete structured pick-and-place objectives by identifying, picking up, moving, and accurately placing specified items.

The operator’s movements contribute to improvements in robot performance and learning. Actions must therefore be deliberate, efficient, consistent, and precise. Operators are expected to follow each objective as written, maintain a steady operating pace, and minimize hesitation, unnecessary movement, and repeated attempts while prioritizing safety.

The operator will also monitor robot performance, respond to operational issues, and provide first-line technical support using approved procedures. This role requires strong spatial awareness, attention to detail, disciplined troubleshooting, and clear communication with customers and internal technical teams.

Requirements

• Able to use a VR headset and handheld controllers safely and effectively for scheduled operating periods, with reasonable accommodation where applicable.
• Strong hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness, and attention to detail.
• Able to perform controlled and precise movements at a consistent pace.
• Able to understand detailed instructions and complete objectives as assigned.
• Comfortable performing repetitive pick-and-place tasks while maintaining accuracy and focus.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Able to interpret system alerts, document technical problems, and follow troubleshooting and escalation procedures.
• Dependable and able to maintain attention during continuous or repetitive operations.
Available to work assigned shifts based on operational coverage requirements.

Nice to Have

• Experience with VR systems, robotics, gaming controls, simulation software, or remote equipment operation.
• Experience in technical support, robotic operations, industrial operations, hardware testing, or quality assurance.
• Familiarity with ticketing systems, technical documentation, and structured troubleshooting processes.

What success looks like

• Safe and consistent robot operation.
• Accurate completion of assigned objectives.
• Efficient completion of pick-and-place tasks.
• Smooth, deliberate, and controlled robot movements.
• Low frequency of unnecessary movements, hesitation, and repeated attempts.
• Compliance with task instructions and operating procedures.
• Robot availability and continuity of operations.
• Timely response to operational issues.
• Complete and useful troubleshooting and escalation information.
• Accurate operational and support records.
