About the role
Job Description
At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.
Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.
The Role
The Senior Technical Program Manager, Mechatronic Infrastructure, will own execution for one or more basic software (BSW) and infrastructure-tooling products that support existing and future electrical architectures. This is a highly collaborative technical program leadership role for someone who can move comfortably between product strategy, engineering detail and day-to-day execution.
You will establish clear plans, align stakeholders, make risks visible and drive decisions across product, engineering, systems and business teams. Success will require a customer-centered mindset, strong technical judgment, disciplined follow-through and the ability to lead through changing scope, ambiguity and setbacks without relying solely on formal authority.
What You'll Do
· Own deliverables for one or more basic software (BSW) and/or infrastructure-tooling products.
· Partner with product, engineering, systems and business stakeholders to scope and deliver enterprise-scale infrastructure programs.
· Translate corporate strategy into actionable technical roadmaps, timelines, milestones and measurable deliverables.
· Lead programs from requirements definition through deployment, including scope, schedule, implementation planning, dependencies and risk mitigation.
· Coordinate internal and external resources to ensure programs meet scope, schedule, budget and quality commitments.
· Establish the operating rhythm for program execution, including intake, prioritization, ownership, handoffs, issue escalation and decision-making.
· Identify technical, organizational and schedule risks; surface trade-offs early and provide leadership with concise status, options and recommendations.
· Analyze and report program health and revise scope, schedule or budget when needed to achieve program objectives.
· Create and maintain core program documentation, including execution plans, product-lifecycle plans, decision records, readiness criteria and status reporting.
· Lead process creation and documentation for program-related activities and drive continuous improvement.
· Establish and maintain relationships with client and engineering stakeholders, serving as a day-to-day point of contact for program status, decisions and changes.
· Translate complex engineering issues into clear business decisions and actionable commitments for technical and senior leadership forums.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
· Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
· At least two years of project or program management experience, or related experience.
· At least five years of experience in embedded controls, software architecture, systems engineering or a related technical discipline.
· Demonstrated success leading technically complex, cross-functional programs from strategy through implementation and operational adoption.
· Ability to analyze unusual and complex design challenges and make data-driven decisions in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment.
· Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to collaborate and negotiate effectively with stakeholders, leaders, engineering staff and peers.
· Demonstrated ownership of outcomes, disciplined follow-through and commitment to safety, quality and customer needs.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
· Master’s degree in engineering, business, computer science or a related field.
· Two or more years of project or program management experience in one or more architectural domains, such as embedded controls, embedded infrastructure, virtualization, continuous integration or continuous delivery.
· Knowledge of basic software functions and embedded software development processes.
· Experience with the AUTOSAR Classic Platform, including application, communication, runtime-environment or basic-software components, or experience with similar automotive software architectures.
· Experience scaling engineering capabilities across multiple programs, architectures or product teams.
· Experience defining governance, standard work, readiness criteria, performance metrics or operating models for a new technical capability.
· Project Management Professional certification.
Behavioral Competencies
· Win with Integrity: Build trust through transparent commitments, sound judgment and honest escalation.
· Lead as One Team: Align diverse technical teams around a common outcome and collaborate across organizational boundaries.
· Own the Outcome: Take accountability for delivery, including dependencies outside the immediate team.
· Commit to Customers: Focus infrastructure improvements on the needs of engineering partners, vehicle programs and end customers.
· Move with Urgency: Convert ambiguity into an executable plan and remove roadblocks before they affect critical-path milestones.
· Innovate and Embrace Change: Challenge existing methods and scale better ways of working when evidence supports the change.
Reasons to Apply
· Lead foundational capabilities that enable GM’s current and future vehicle electrical architectures.
· Work at the intersection of software, embedded controls, systems engineering, infrastructure tooling and vehicle-program execution.
· Influence enterprise-scale technical programs with visibility from engineering teams through senior leadership.
· Turn complex technical strategy into repeatable, measurable execution.
· Help engineering teams deliver higher-quality products with improved speed, transparency and predictability.
· Grow as a technical program leader while working with experts across multiple engineering disciplines.
