SDE II (Backend)

Who We AreIndia has a healthcare problem. Not a shortage of doctors or medicines — but a shortage ofaccess. Today, hundreds of millions of Indians navigate a fragmented, intimidating system thatwas never designed with them in mind. A working mother in Patna shouldn't have to travel threehours for a specialist. A diabetic professional in Coimbatore shouldn't have to choose betweenmanaging his condition and managing his day.MediBuddy exists to change this.We are India's largest digital healthcare platform — built on one conviction: that qualityhealthcare is a right, not a privilege. Every day, we serve 35,000 patients across 22+ specialtiesin 16 Indian languages, connecting them to consultations, diagnostics, surgeries, and ongoingchronic care — seamlessly, digitally, and at scale. We are not a booking tool. We are a full-stack care platform that follows the patient from firstsymptom to last mile of recovery. But we are not done. Half of India still doesn't get thehealthcare it deserves. That gap is why we come to work.
Why This Role ExistsMediBuddy is simultaneously building six different stacks — digital consultations, e-commercefor medicine delivery, hyperlocal lab tests at home, healthcare transactions, in-clinic booking, and B2B healthcare for corporates and insurers. Every one of these stacks is powered bybackend systems that need to be fast, reliable, and able to handle real scale — because behindevery API call is someone booking a doctor, ordering medicine, or an employer rolling outhealthcare to thousands of employees. With 190+ engineers organized into pods across Android, iOS, Node.js, .NET, Data Science, and DevOps, MediBuddy needs backend engineers who can take a large, fuzzy problem andturn it into a well-architected, distributed system — not just an API that works today, but one thatholds up as transaction volume grows. We're looking for an SDE I / SDE II - Backend who can do exactly that.About This RoleThis is not a ticket-closing role. It is not "implement the endpoint you're told to." You will beexpected to drive design and architecture across multiple backend subsystems, break downambiguous problems into buildable services, and own the full lifecycle of what you build — fromhigh-level design through performance tuning in production. The person we're looking for has 1–6 years of experience building data-heavy, large-scalebackend systems with complex business flows. They think in terms of platforms and reuse, not
one-off services. They care as much about the maintainability and testability of their code asthey do about shipping it.What You Will Own1. System Design & Architecture● Drive design and architecture of multiple backend subsystems, with the ability to breakfuzzier, larger problems into well-scoped services.● Build abstractions and contracts with clear separation of concerns for a larger productscope.● Perform high-level design with guidance — functional modeling and breakdown ofmodules.● Make incremental architectural changes and assess their impact on the broader system.2. Building Scalable, Reliable Systems● Build robust, scalable, data-driven backend systems designed for reuse across theplatform.● Apply advanced high-level design principles — system architecture, caching, queuing —to real production problems.● Perform performance tuning and improvements across large-scale distributed systems.● Build and manage API endpoints that reliably serve multimodal clients (web, mobile, partner integrations).3. Execution & Cross-Functional Collaboration● Work closely with Product Owners to translate features and solutions into a clearcapability view.● Lead execution of medium-sized projects, breaking work into phases that bringpredictability to delivery.● Work with broader stakeholders to track project and feature impact, and proactivelyiterate to improve outcomes.● Drive problem-solving on both high-level business and technical challenges.4. Code Quality & Craft● Write maintainable, scalable, unit-tested code with extensive, expert-level command ofat least one general-purpose backend programming language and tech stack.● Apply strong object-oriented design skills, design pattern knowledge, and a genuinepassion for clean module- and class-level interfaces.● Practice Test Driven Development as a default, not an afterthought.● Deploy and support applications at scale in live production systems on Linux.5. Mentorship & Team Building
● Mentor junior engineers and foster team spirit.● Bring a bias for action — knowing when speed matters and when rigor matters more.● Bring a go-getter attitude that shows up in the energy and intent behind every task, however small. What Success Looks LikeEarly days — Ramped up on at least one core backend subsystem; contributing well-tested,production-ready services independently; comfortable navigating the existing microservicesarchitecture on AWS.Mid-term — Driving design for a backend subsystem end-to-end; leading execution of amedium-sized project from breakdown to delivery; actively mentoring at least one juniorengineer.Longer-term — Recognized as someone stakeholders trust to take an ambiguous, large-scopebackend problem and turn it into a scalable, well-architected system — without needing to betold how. What We Are Looking ForNon-Negotiable● B.E./B.Tech from a top-ranked college.● 1–6 years of experience building large-scale, data-heavy backend applications withcomplex business flows.● Extensive hands-on experience with Node.js (and/or .NET), with a stronggeneral-purpose programming foundation.● Solid grounding in design patterns, algorithms, data structures, and Test DrivenDevelopment.● Experience deploying and managing applications in production at scale, includingbuilding and managing API endpoints for multimodal clients.● Full life-cycle development experience on a Linux platform.Strongly Preferred● Experience with microservices architecture on cloud platforms (AWS preferred),including caching layers, message queues, and distributed system design.● Exposure to working in sprint-based, pod-structured engineering teams.● Familiarity with database design and optimization for high-transaction-volume systems.● Enthusiasm for learning fast and contributing in a challenging, fast-moving startupenvironment.
Character Profile● Treats ambiguity as a starting point, not a blocker — breaks down fuzzy problemsinstead of waiting for clarity.● Cares about the craft of code as much as the outcome — clean abstractions, testablesystems, thoughtful interfaces.● Builds trust with the people around them — Product Owners, stakeholders, and thejunior engineers they mentor.● Brings energy and ownership to assigned work, not just compliance. Why This Role MattersEvery stack MediBuddy runs — consultations, medicine delivery, lab tests at home, transactions, bookings, B2B healthcare — depends on backend engineers who can turnambiguous problems into distributed systems that don't fall over under real-world scale. TheSDE I/II Backend engineer who joins this team won't just be writing services; they'll be buildingthe infrastructure that hundreds of thousands of patients and employees rely on to gethealthcare reliably, at the moments it matters most.
