About North Cloud
The public cloud is rapidly evolving, with businesses investing over $200 billion annually in cloud technology. As AI accelerates demand for scalable infrastructure, cloud costs are soaring, and most teams still rely on spreadsheets to manage them.
At North, we’re building the next-generation cloud, AI, and data spend management platform. We give companies real-time visibility, control, and automation over their digital asset finances so they can grow efficiently without wasting time or money.
Backed by top-tier investors and trusted by companies managing complex cloud environments, North is building the financial operating system for the public cloud.
About the role
You'll join the Foundations team, which owns how North is built, shipped, and run: the cloud infrastructure North runs on, developer tooling, CI/CD, and releases, observability and incident tooling, and the internal tools teams across North use to operate the product, including teams outside engineering.
You'll work across all of it, from infrastructure as code to full-stack application code, with the goal of making North easy to operate and hard to get wrong. Internal tools are a large part of the work today, alongside the infrastructure and tooling every engineering team depends on.
We're hiring for this role without a fixed level. We'll level you based on experience and on how you work, using our engineering ladder.
What you'll do
- Build and manage the cloud infrastructure North runs on, and keep it available, resilient, and secure.
- Improve developer tooling, CI/CD, local development, and releases so the right way to ship is the easy way for every team.
- Strengthen observability and incident tooling, and take part in on-call.
- Build and grow the admin dashboard and internal tools that teams across North rely on, including teams outside engineering.
- Build internal tools to be reliable and auditable, with the access controls and safeguards they need.
- Work with the teams who depend on Foundations to understand what they need.
What We're Looking For
- 3+ years building and operating production software, including time on-call.
- Full-stack experience, with strength in Python on the backend.
- Hands-on experience with AWS and infrastructure as code, such as Terraform.
- Experience building internal tools or admin systems where correctness and permissions matter.
- Comfort with CI/CD pipelines and developer tooling.
- Pragmatic, informed use of AI coding tools.
- Clear writing, and the habit of documenting what you build.
Nice to Have
- Experience with billing, invoicing, or financial operations systems.
- Experience with monorepos and build tooling such as Nx.
- Experience with incident management and on-call tooling.
- Familiarity with FinOps concepts.
