About the role
ADVANCE YOUR CAREER. ADVANCE THE WORLD.
At AMD, we believe technology has the power to solve the world’s most important challenges. From advancing healthcare and scientific discovery to powering AI and the technologies people rely on every day, innovation at AMD is shaping the future.
Whether you’re designing next-gen processors, enabling AI breakthroughs, or bringing leading edge products to market, every role at AMD contributes to something bigger — technology that moves the world forward. Join us and, together, we’ll advance your career.
THE ROLE:
AMD’s processors are consistently ranked among the best in the world for performance, efficiency, and reliability — and verification is a core reason why.
AMD is one of the few places in the world where you can work on leading-edge Microprocessor silicon at this scale while staying completely hands-on. You’ll be in the code, in the simulation, in the architecture review, doing the work that matters. The problems are genuinely hard, the team is strong, and the processors we build end up in the machines people depend on every day. If that’s the kind of engineering career you want to build, we’d like to meet you.
THE PERSON:
The Engineer Others Turn To. That’s You.
We’re looking for a Senior Verification Engineer who is still deeply hands-on: someone who shapes technical strategy, solves the problems nobody else can crack, and raises the quality bar through example and expertise.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Own functional verification of high-performance Microprocessor designs from block level through full-chip integration.
- Design and build sophisticated verification infrastructure: behavioral reference models, transaction-level checkers, scoreboards, and simulation frameworks that operate at chip scale.
- Write advanced C and assembly test programs that find the architectural corner cases no automated tool will reach on its own.
- Drive regression quality and defect convergence to tape-out standards — 99%+ pass rates, clean coverage, and a well-managed bug backlog.
- Serve as the technical authority in architecture reviews, coverage closure meetings, and tape-out readiness assessments.
- Identify verification risk early, communicate it clearly to design and program teams, and arrive with a mitigation plan.
- Share knowledge through code reviews, design discussions, and mentorship — and make the engineers around you measurably better.
- Build tools and automation that improve team velocity and verification confidence across all active programs.
- Collaborate across RTL, DFT, physical design, and architecture teams at multiple sites to keep verification aligned with design reality.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Extensive functional verification experience on high-performance Microprocessors or complex ASIC/SoC designs.
- Expert C++ programming skills — you build production-quality verification software and set the standard for those around you.
- Deep experience with C++ based verification: behavioral models, reference models, checkers, and large-scale simulation infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of computer architecture, including out-of-order processor pipelines, memory hierarchy and superscalar execution.
- A track record of driving programs through tape-out with clean metrics — you know what done really looks like.
- Ability to influence technical direction and build alignment across teams without formal authority.
- Experience designing reference models or behavioral models for Microprocessor execution units.
- Knowledge of floating point math and experience working on a floating point execution unit.
- Programming proficiency in x86 assembly, C/C++, Perl, Python, and Ruby languages.
- Experience with Verilog HDL and SystemVerilog along with a solid understanding of computer architecture.
- Formal verification applied to correctness properties in complex control and datapath logic.
- Prior work verifying multi-die or chiplet-based processor architectures.
- Experience at a leading semiconductor company on x86 or ARM processor programs.
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
- BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent preferred.
LOCATIONS:
- Fishkill, New York, OR Fort Collins, Colorado. On-site. Relocation assistance available.
This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
