Software Engineer

MentalHappy is a digital health platform designed to help people of all races, genders and economic statuses improve their emotional wellbeing through positive peer support. We provide a safe and secure platform to talk about mental health and the challenges you face in your daily life, receive support from others like you who understand what you’re experiencing, and learn practical tips and techniques to help you heal and improve your emotional fitness each day. We need a hands-on Software Engineer  that is not afraid to take on a great challenge and is willing to set the code for tomorrow’s needs. We want someone who will write quality code and deliver results within set  timelines.

We expect someone capable of taking a technical brief, making basic architecture recommendations and following high quality standards while coding apps.

You will join our dedicated team in working remotely, but must be based in Lagos, Nigeria.

As part of our startup, you will be involved in the entire product lifecycle - from company strategy through design, implementation, deployment. 

What You'll Do:

• Own the core product suite (React / React Native & Node) and drive iterations to create inflection points in the product
• Work closely w/ product designers and other engineers to form hypotheses, test them, and analyze the findings
• Work on increasing the iteration speed with a hacker mindset while maintaining a stable infrastructure
• Deploy new features to web application to improve UX for users
  Optimize and add to the backend powering MentalHappy’s web applications
• Improve and build upon our mobile app to increase functionality and encourage support group community growth
• Build internal features and automate workflows to directly support our Operations and Client Success teams
• Be involved in major product decisions

What You'll Bring:

• 4+ years' experience as a fully-hands-on Software Engineer
• Proficiency in NodeJS, Javascript, React, HTML, CSS, MongoDB, AWS, and modern cloud service architectures 
• Solid understanding of native mobile applications
• Native iOS / Android experience preferred 
• Strong interest in understanding user data and analytics preferred 

 Development mindset

• Ability to write readable, maintainable, and well-tested code
• Strong problem-solving skills 
• A deep belief in automation and doing things the right way the first time
• An opinion about what code to test and how to test it
• Well-rounded experience with small software teams and desire to get your hands dirty
• Great communication skills, particularly with non-technical team members
