Manufacturing Engineer

Manufacturing Engineers develop world-class equipment and processes, working with cross-functional teams through the full product launch lifecycle — from design through prototype and into volume production. This role needs a driven engineer who will work daily with Design Engineering, Quality, Production, and external vendors to take new product designs from concept to a process that holds dimension, welds cleanly, and ramps. The work is hands-on. You will own tooling and process development for welded and assembled hardware, stand in the cell when the first parts run, and close the loop on GD&T, weld parameters, fixtures, and rate.
Responsibilities
- Lead development of robust tooling and fixture design to hit the process plan and GD&T / locating strategy. Work with Galadyne partner vendors through design, buy-off, install, and delivery of the final process.
- Own early project planning documents and keep them current: timelines, RFQs, PFMEAs, DFMEAs, control plans, safety risk assessments, work instructions, and inspection standards.
- Lead development and introduction of processes and equipment for early prototype builds. Capture process and equipment gaps during those builds and drive the fixes into the production-intent process.
- Develop production cells and lines with partner vendors — unusual simplicity, density, and speed. Support install, commissioning, and ramp so the line comes up in the shortest time and at the lowest cost without sacrificing capability.
- Drive strategies to ramp quality and rate of newly launched lines to full capacity, with safety as a hard constraint through the entire ramp.
- Give Design critical DFM feedback and enforce dimensional intent: locating strategy, datum schemes, GD&T, weld access, and assembly sequence so the product design actually builds.
- Develop and lock welding and joining processes used on the product — resistance (spot / projection), GMAW / MIG-MAG, laser, TIG, friction stir, stud, and braze as applicable. Write WPS, set parameter windows with DOE, and own consumable strategy.
- Program or direct robot and weld-equipment setup (Fanuc, ABB, Motoman or equivalent; Fronius, Lincoln, or equivalent power sources). Modify jigs and fixtures on the floor; coordinate equipment installs with vendors and maintenance.
- Own dimensional control of welded assemblies through launch: checking-fixture instructions, CMM and 3D scan (GOM or equivalent) loops, fixture adjustment and shimming, and dimensional review meetings with Design and Quality during pilot and ramp.
- Error-proof the process: mechanical and automated poka-yoke, red-rabbit checks, vision / inspection where it earns its keep, and training for production, maintenance, and quality.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years developing and launching complex welding and assembly processes. Automotive BIW, aerospace structure, or similarly demanding joining + dimensional work is the closest analog.
- Extensive hands-on welding experience in a production context: TIG / MIG, resistance (spot / projection), laser, and friction stir. You have parameterized equipment, written process sheets, and lived with the process after launch — not only in a lab.
- Hands-on experience modifying jigs and fixtures and coordinating equipment installations. Comfortable shimming, adjusting locating schemes, and walking a cell with Maintenance and Production.
- Strong GD&T and dimensional skill: you can take a datum scheme from the print to the fixture to CMM / scan results and close the loop during pre-production and ramp.
- Working command of BOMs, OEE, DFM, process design and validation, assembly methods, design reviews, and cost reduction.
- You have built the launch packet before: process flow, PFMEA, control plan, work instructions, inspection standards. Tools such as 8D, DMAIC, DOE (Minitab or equivalent), APQP / PPAP, and MSA are familiar, not theoretical.
- Robot and weld-equipment fluency is a strong plus (Fanuc, ABB, Motoman; Fronius, Lincoln, Serra / Bosch-class resistance equipment).
- Experience with AutoCAD, CATIA, SOLIDWORKS, or equivalent for tooling and process review.
