Responsibilities
Our Digital Experience area is seeking an experienced Full Stack Software Engineer to support the continued development, modernization, and operational health of the Personal Lines Modernization Auto Quote & Buy application. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery of new customer-facing capabilities across the native UI and supporting Java Spring Boot APIs, while maintaining a strong focus on application health, reliability, resiliency, and operational excellence.
The ideal candidate will combine strong software engineering skills with an analytical, investigative mindset and the ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex application issues across multiple integrated systems. In addition to feature development, this engineer will play a key role in identifying opportunities to improve application stability, reduce recurring errors, enhance automated testing, and improve the team's ability to efficiently diagnose production incidents.
Some Responsibilities May Include:
- Design, develop, test, and maintain customer-facing capabilities within the PL Mod Auto Quote & Buy UI.
- Develop and enhance Java Spring Boot backend APIs and integrations with supporting utility APIs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver new capabilities, enhancements, and state rollout requirements.
- Investigate and resolve complex technical issues spanning frontend, backend, and integrated systems.
- Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Ensure development aligns with established architectural standards, security requirements, and engineering best practices.
- Application Health, Reliability & Resiliency: Take a proactive role in evaluating and improving the overall health and stability of the Auto Quote & Buy application.
- Automated Testing & Quality Improvements: Conduct in-depth analysis of existing AATs (automated acceptance tests) to identify coverage gaps, unreliable tests, and opportunities for refinement.
- Incident Analysis & Operational Troubleshooting: Investigate recurring application errors that create confusion or inefficiencies during production incident triage.
- Cross-Team Collaboration & Technical Ownership: Work closely with AutoQuoteAPI, PolicyCenter, and other integrated application teams to resolve cross-system technical issues.
Qualifications
We Are Seeking Candidates With:
- Strong experience in full stack software development, including frontend UI development and backend services.
- Hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot.
- Experience developing and consuming RESTful APIs and integrating with multiple backend services.
- Strong understanding of application architecture, distributed systems, and service-to-service integrations.
- Experience debugging complex application issues across multiple technology layers.
- Familiarity with automated acceptance testing, integration testing, and regression testing.
- Experience using application logs, monitoring platforms, and diagnostic tools to troubleshoot production issues.
- Understanding of error handling, fault tolerance, resiliency patterns, and application performance.
- Experience working within Agile development teams and CI/CD delivery pipelines.
Additional Skills
- Experience supporting high-volume, customer-facing web applications.
- Familiarity with insurance quoting, policy administration, or other complex transactional applications.
- Experience with observability and application monitoring tools, including alert investigation and log analysis.
- Knowledge of Guidewire PolicyCenter or similar policy administration platforms.
- Experience investigating cross-application issues involving multiple engineering teams and dependent APIs.
- Demonstrated ability to improve automated test reliability and reduce recurring production defects.
- Analytical: Comfortable performing deep technical investigations and identifying root causes rather than addressing symptoms.
- Proactive: Able to identify emerging risks and improvement opportunities without waiting for production incidents.
- Versatile: Equally comfortable delivering new application features and resolving complex technical issues.
- Collaborative: Effective at working across engineering teams to resolve problems that span system boundaries.
- Accountable: Willing to take ownership of technical issues through investigation, remediation, and validation.
- Improvement-Oriented: Motivated to make applications more stable, maintainable, observable, and resilient.
