Senior Cloud Engineer (Kubernetes)

We're a SaaS company innovating at the intersection of AI and scalable cloud infrastructure. Our platform empowers thousands of users daily, and we're scaling rapidly. As we grow, we are investing deeply into developer enablement, infrastructure automation, and reliability to support both velocity and resilience.

About Trengo

Welcome to the forefront of AI-driven communication. At Trengo, we’re redefining the industry by replacing repetitive work with meaningful conversations through our AI-powered customer engagement platform. We unify communication channels and leverage agentic AI to deliver proactive, human-like service, boosting efficiency for thousands of businesses worldwide.

As a fast-moving Dutch scale-up, backed by a $36M Series A and an official WhatsApp Business Solutions Provider, we thrive on acceleration. Your expertise will drive growth: you’ll make a strategic impact, champion AI innovation, and help shape the product roadmap. You’ll do this alongside an international team guided by our Dynamic pace, Future-proof mindset, Ownership, and Open culture.

The opportunity

You'll work on the Kubernetes platform behind Trengo's customer engagement and AI products: EKS clusters managed through GitOps, plus the migration of our EC2-based workloads onto it. This is a platform engineering role within our cloud team. You'll work closely with the product and AI teams and the rest of the cloud team, so developers can ship safely and on their own. A big part of the role is bringing people along: helping developers understand and adopt the platform, and sharing what you know with the team.

Our stack

• Kubernetes and GitOps: EKS, Karpenter, FluxCD, KCL, kro, Envoy Gateway (Gateway API)

• Cloud and IaC: AWS across multiple accounts (EC2, Lambda, ECR, Bedrock), Terraform, GitHub Actions

• Data: PlanetScale (MySQL), Aurora PostgreSQL, MongoDB Atlas, ElastiCache (Valkey/Redis), Elastic Cloud, S3, SQS, MSK (Kafka)

• Networking and security: VPC, PrivateLink, Route 53, ALB, CloudFront, Cloudflare, IAM, KMS, external-secrets

• Observability: Grafana Cloud, VictoriaMetrics, Loki, Tempo, OpenTelemetry

What your role looks like

• Work on our EKS clusters and GitOps platform: upgrades, security, autoscaling and the core platform components.

• Improve how teams deploy to Kubernetes: the GitOps workflows, CI/CD pipelines and self-service templates developers use to ship their apps.

• Help migrate our core Laravel application from EC2 to Kubernetes, while keeping the existing EC2 fleet healthy.

• Manage AWS infrastructure with Terraform, and improve observability, alerting, security and cost across the platform.

• Bring engineers along: mentor them, pair on platform changes, write clear docs and help define our engineering standards.

What you’ll bring

We’d love to meet you if have:

• Production experience running Kubernetes and Docker-based workloads, including cluster upgrades, autoscaling and troubleshooting.

• Hands-on experience deploying to Kubernetes with GitOps and CI/CD pipelines (we use FluxCD and GitHub Actions).

• 5+ years in Cloud Infrastructure, Platform Engineering or DevOps roles, with deep AWS experience (EKS, EC2, IAM, VPC networking).

• Strong Terraform and Linux skills, and a solid understanding of observability, secrets management and least-privilege access.

• Excellent communication skills and experience mentoring engineers and bringing teams along when tools or ways of working change.

Nice to have

• Experience with FluxCD, Envoy Gateway, Karpenter, kro, KCL or Kubernetes operators

• Migrating a monolith from VMs to Kubernetes

• Managed databases and search in production (MySQL/PlanetScale, PostgreSQL, MongoDB Atlas, Elasticsearch)

• Multi-account AWS, Kafka, Cloudflare or AI/LLM workloads in production

• A background in security, compliance (e.g. GDPR) or incident response

⚙️ Our tech & AI mindset

AI is not a buzzword at Trengo. It is part of how we build and operate. You’ll work with AI-driven features, automation, data, or tools that help us move faster and smarter. We value thoughtful use of AI that creates real value for customers and teams.
