Enphase Energy is a global energy technology company and a leading provider of solar, battery, and electric vehicle charging products. Founded in 2006, our innovative microinverter technology revolutionized solar power, making it a safer, more reliable, and scalable energy source. Today, the Enphase Energy System enables users to make, use, save, and sell their own power. Enphase is also one of the most successful and innovative clean energy companies in the world, with more than 80 million products shipped across 160 countries.   Join our dynamic teams designing and developing next-gen energy technologies and help drive a sustainable future!

About the role:

The Enphase System Control Innovation (SCI) team in the office of the CTO is responsible for defining, building, and supporting the next generation system control solutions for Enphase products, including the Enphase Solid State Transformer. The team is an integrated, multi-disciplinary group that is fast-moving and looking for a motivated individual that can lead key control design and modeling initiatives that will shape the direction of our products.

This is a team leadership role. You will lead a team responsible for innovating system control solutions, modeling our end-to-end power system solutions, and demonstrating whole-system performance.

What you will do:

• Understand our unique power product and systems architectures and help drive design and validate approaches for performant system control and product integration
• Lead development of detailed electro-magnetic transient (EMT) simulation models that integrate power electronics systems, power systems, and control systems using PSCAD and other similar modeling tools. Use these models to demonstrate and validate whole-system performance including transient response, voltage regulation performance, sharing and coordination control performance, frequency domain stability analyses, and fault and protection coordination studies.
• Drive hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation-based validation of power systems and converters
• Participate in prototyping and implementation of custom control logic embedded on distributed real-time control platforms
• Advance specifications and integration designs for external control interfaces, sensing, electrical protection, and power system integration of power products
• Mentor, develop, and lead an innovative, solutions-focused, engineering team, including setting objectives, determining work plans, and delegating assignments

Who You Are and What You Bring:

• BS/MS/PhD Electrical Engineering or closely related discipline with modeling and energy system experience.
• Job title and position level will be determined upon the candidate’s experience
• BS and 15+ years / MS and 6+ years / PhD and 3+ years of relevant experience
• Candidates with greater levels of experience are encouraged to apply

Minimum Skills, Knowledge, and Special Attributes:

• Strong experience developing, from theory to implementation, control and optimization approaches (e.g., phased-lock loops, closed-loop control systems, droop control, filtering and estimation, system identification, etc.) applied to power systems
• Proficient with EMT-based software tools (e.g., PSCAD, PowerFactory, EMTP, Simulink/Simscape Electrical, RTDS, Hypersim, or similar tools)
• Experience developing and integrating dynamical models for power electronics systems, power systems, generators, dynamic loads, and/or HVDC systems
• Highly proficient with HIL simulation-based validation approaches
• Experience developing and analyzing control logic written in C, C++, or python
• Familiar with embedded platforms and concepts appropriate for real-time control implementation
• Experience taking ownership of development tasks and leading a team to accomplish key project objectives

Additional Desired Skills:

• Experience with design, modeling, or validation of data center power systems
• Knowledge of power system integration codes and standards such as IEEE 2800, UL 1741, IEEE 1547 and/or medium voltage product standards such as UL 347A and UL 2877
• Hands-on experience implementing and testing systems of embedded controllers and/or power electronics devices with embedded control

The base pay range for this position is $130,000 to $226,000. This salary range may be modified in the future. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, education or training, work location, and market conditions. This position is also eligible for bonus, equity, and benefits.
