About Diffraqtion

Diffraqtion builds a novel Quantum Vision System that pulls more information out of each photon than conventional imaging allows. Our photonics process incoming light before it reaches the sensor, so the computation happens passively in the light itself. We are an early-stage team in Somerville by founders from MIT and Harvard, working under NASA and DARPA contracts and backed by Lockheed Martin and Sumitomo. Our systems are headed for satellites that protect assets in orbit and on the ground, and for telescopes hunting Earth-like planets around other stars.  You would be joining early, with real hardware to build and real missions to put it on.

General Application

Don’t see a role that fits? Apply anyway.

We hire people first and fit the role second. Some of our best hires never answered a job posting. If you’re exceptional at something that matters to a company building a new kind of camera, we want to hear from you.

Who we’re looking for

We’re interested in people across physics, optics and photonics, computational imaging, computer vision and ML, embedded systems and FPGA, mechanical and opto-mechanical design, test and integration, and space systems. On the business side we need people in government contracts, business development, operations, and finance.

You don’t need a quantum background. Most of our hardware is classical optics and conventional detectors. What matters is that you go deep, learn fast, and finish what you start.

What it’s like here

We’re a team of about a dozen. Everyone owns real work with real consequences. Our hardware is moving from the lab bench to observatory telescopes to orbit, with deliverables to DARPA, NASA, and defense primes along the way. You’ll see your work in the field within months, not years.

Expect high ownership, little process for its own sake, and direct access to founders, customers, and the science.

How to apply

Send your CV and a short note. Tell us one thing you’ve built that you’re proud of and what you’d want to work on here. A paragraph is enough. Links to code, papers, patents, or projects are welcome.

We read every application. If there’s no fit today, we keep strong profiles on file and reach out when a role opens.

Location

Boston, MA. Most roles are on-site because the lab is where the work happens.

Export control notice

All positions currently involve access to technology controlled under U.S. export regulations (ITAR/EAR). These require U.S. person status or eligibility for a U.S. government export authorization.
