Job Description

At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.

Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.

The Role:
At GM, safety is the foundation of everything we build. Our vision of zero crashes, zero emissions, and zero congestion depends on engineers like you and as a Crashworthiness Engineer, you'll be on the front lines of making it real.

GM's Global Product Safety, Systems and Certification (GPSSC) organization is seeking Senior Performance Integration Engineers and Performance Integration Engineers. Based on your engineering background, your focus will be on Structural Performance Integration or Post Crash Electrical Integrity (PCEI).  You will lead technical projects across the full vehicle development lifecycle, bringing engineering initiative, creativity, and independent judgment to this work. You will provide technical direction while collaborating with cross-functional groups to prioritize safety and balance requirements.

This position may be filled with a Senior Performance Integration Engineer or a Performance Integration Engineer. The level for this role will be determined based on the selected candidate’s qualifications, skills, and experience.

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities):

• Understand and apply GM Safety CAE standard work procedures for delivering quality models and simulation results. Utilize GM Safety CAE standard work procedures for all simulations and ensure high-quality models.
• Perform Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) simulations to evaluate either structural performance or PCEI performance for high-speed frontal, side, and rear impact load cases using LS-DYNA software.
• Using CAE to lead the vehicle design, generate feasible and timely vehicle design recommendations and technical solutions to meet safety performance targets for the vehicle program as documented in the Vehicle Technical Specifications (VTS). Balance safety requirements based on the results of crash simulations for the major safety load cases with other performance requirements.
• Work with engineering functions, vehicle program teams, suppliers, manufacturing, and others to implement design changes as required to achieve vehicle performance.
• Use advanced CAE tools and methods (Variation Study/DOE/DFSS/MDO) to optimize performance.
• Plan, prepare, execute and analyze post-test results for testing at the Vehicle Proving Grounds. Interpret measurements, conduct analysis, and compare CAE to test results. Effectively communicate results and proactively collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve issues and verify solutions.
• Work with global teams in a collaborative environment.
• Present performance status at appropriate forums on regular basis (Safety PIT, PDT, CIT, SP-QIT)
• Demonstrate GM Core Values and Behaviors

Additional Responsibilities for Senior Level:

• Exercise independent discretion and judgment on significant matters based on professional knowledge.
• Manage complex issues and assignments requiring conceptual thinking, originality and ingenuity of approaches, and a wide application of principles, theories, and concepts to achieve the results.
• Capable of managing broad or multiple projects with high degree of difficulty.
• Serves as a mentor to more junior level team members providing coaching and guidance on difficult issues.

Yours Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

• Bachelor’s Degree in engineering; Mechanical, Electrical, Aero, Civil, Materials, Applied Physics.
• 2+ years of demonstrated proficiency with CAE or related engineering experience (DRE, validation, lab).
• Knowledge of engineering theory and application in automotive development.
• Willingness to learn new skills and adapt expeditiously.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others.
• High level of analytical ability to solve challenging problems and to integrate complex systems.
• Knowledge of statistical and optimization tools and techniques.
• High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Yours Skills & Abilities (Additional Required Qualifications) Senior Level:

• 4+ years of demonstrated proficiency with CAE or related engineering experience (DRE, validation, lab).
• undefined

Preferred Skills, Experience and Education:

• Master’s or PhD in Engineering:  Mechanical, Electrical, Aero, Civil, Materials, Applied Physics.
• Working knowledge of CAE and Validation tools – training available in LS-DYNA, PRIMER, METAPOST, ANSA, HYPERWORKS, and other CAE tools.
• Experience in virtual CAE and PCEI performance integration experience.
• Knowledge of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) and Global Safety Requirements and Standards – training available.
• Working knowledge of Unigraphics, TeamCenter, and VisMockup.
• Proficiency in Google Workspace applications and performance integration related applications.

Additional Preferred Skills, Experience and Education Senior Level:
