About the role
Are you searching for an experience that will include impactful engineering work?
Does making meaningful contributions to projects that span from submarines to surface ships, UAVs, aircraft, missiles, autonomous submarines, advanced manufacturing devices, to wearables and spacecraft sound like a dream job?
If so, and if you are graduating with a degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering, we would love to have you join our team!
We are seeking a talented team member to help us develop mechanical and electromechanical systems. As a member of our team you will be working with passionate engineers and scientists who design, analyze, and test systems for all of APL's Mission Areas. Our team strives to deliver robust mechanical solutions to APL's most difficult problems. Our team values leadership and communication skills and we cultivate an environment of collaboration.
As a member of our team...
- Your primary responsibility will be to build models and perform analysis of a broad range of static and dynamic events that may include blast, impact, penetration, structural strength, fluid dynamics, fluid-structure interaction, and material model calibration.
- You will select from and leverage a range of advanced software tools including Abaqus, ABSTRAO, ALE3D, Cheetah, Ansys, CTH, COMSOL, Fluent, IMPETUS, LS-DYNA, NASTRAN, and Thermal Desktop to provide the best possible solution for a given problem.
- You will work with and actively collaborate with engineers, designers, fabricators, and scientists on a daily basis.
- You will generate the files and documentation necessary to facilitate the fabrication of your designs.
- You will give presentations to communicate results to team members.
Qualifications
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
- Are graduating with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
- Have a passion for developing physics-based simulations and applying data analysis to solve problems, possibly in support of class projects, graduate research, or during a prior internship.
- Are able to obtain an interim Secret security clearance prior to reporting and ultimately acquire a full Secret clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you…
- Are pursuing dual degrees and/or have internship experience in the Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical or Computer Engineering or related fields.
- Have CAD experience in either SolidWorks or Creo Parametric.
- Have experience in performing large-scale simulations on high performance computing systems.
- Have experience using LS-DYNA, ABAQUS, or equivalent advanced finite element analysis software packages.
