Humanoid

Prototyping Engineer

Vancouver · Full time · Posted 1H AGO

Here at Humanoid, we believe in a future where robots amplify human potential. That’s why we’ve set out on a mission to build the world’s most capable, commercially-scalable, and safe humanoid robots. We’re bringing that mission to life with HMND‑01 - our rapidly developed humanoid platform being deployed in real industrial environments - and we’re growing the team to take it even further.

About the Role

We are on a mission to redefine robotics by creating humanoids that mimic human dexterity, precision, and flexibility.

As a Robotics Prototype Engineer, you will play a key role in assembling, testing, and validating cutting-edge humanoid robots.

This position requires strong technical expertise in robotic assembly, sensor calibration, and the ability to collaborate closely with engineers to troubleshoot and optimize robotic humanoid systems. If you're passionate about hands-on work with high-tech robotic systems and contributing to the next generation of humanoid robots, we'd love to hear from you.

What You’ll Do

  • Assembly and Integration: Assemble and integrate robotic end-effectors, ensuring all components (actuators, sensors, and electro-mechanical parts) function correctly.

  • Testing and Troubleshooting: Perform rigorous testing to evaluate the robotic components. Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software integration issues.

  • Calibration: Calibrate sensors and commission actuators to achieve optimal performance with respect to the system requirements and expected outcomes.

  • Prototyping and Development: Assist the R&D team in prototyping new robotic designs by providing feedback, assembling prototypes, and testing new components.

  • Technical Support: Provide hands-on support for mechanical and electrical engineers in integrating actuators and sensors into the humanoid robot. Provide support worldwide.

  • Documentation: Document test results, system issues, failure analyses, and corrective actions. Create technical manuals, SOP and maintenance guides for robotic systems.

  • Maintenance and Upgrades: Perform routine maintenance and upgrades on robotic subassemblies on a system level, ensuring continuous performance and durability.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with the mechanical, electrical, and firmware teams to address issues related to electro-mechanical performance and sensor feedback.

  • Equipment and Inventory Management: Maintain specialized tools, equipment, and components. Ensure that inventory levels of critical parts such as actuators and sensors are regularly checked and replenished. Maintain a clean and organized workspace.

We’re Looking For

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, or a related engineering field.

  • 3+ years of experience in assembling, testing, and troubleshooting robotic systems, with a focus on precision mechanics, custom electronics, and sensor integration.

  • Strong proficiency in assembling robotic components and integrating complex mechanical and electrical systems.

  • Hands-on experience with fine-pitch soldering and thin cable assembly techniques.

  • Familiarity with calibrating actuators, sensors, and robotic control system applications.

  • Collaboration: Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams.

  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose issues and implement corrective actions efficiently.

  • Attention to Detail: High attention to detail in handling delicate components and ensuring precise assembly of complex systems.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with Robotics: Background in humanoid robot development, particularly in hand/arm systems or robotic manipulation.

  • Prototyping Skills: Experience with rapid prototyping tools such as 3D printing from FDM and SLA Resin, CNC machining, or laser cutting for robotic component fabrication.

  • Sensor Knowledge: Familiarity with tactile sensors, force sensors, various actuator encoders, and other sensory technologies used in robotics.

  • Actuators and Motors: Experience with motor control drive systems, drive tuning, motor performance analysis, encoder protocols, drive safety protocols and system wiring.

  • Human-Robot Interaction (HRI): Knowledge or experience in designing for human-robot interaction, especially in contexts where robots handle delicate or interactive tasks.

  • Advanced Tools: Experience working with specialized robotic testing equipment and tools, such as precision measuring instruments, environmental testing equipment.

What We Offer

  • Comprehensive extended health benefits starting on your first day, including fully paid medical and dental, virtual care, employee and family assistance, and worldwide emergency medical support.

  • Meaningful time off to rest and recharge: 23 days of annual leave (accrued), 15 days of paid sick leave, and paid company holidays.

  • Paid end-of-year shutdown: annual company-wide holiday closure spanning Christmas through New Year’s Day.

  • Competitive equity: stock options with meaningful upside as we scale.

  • Free daily catered lunch, snacks, and drinks in‑office.

  • Collaboration with top‑tier engineers, researchers, and product experts in AI and robotics.

  • Freedom to influence the product and own key initiatives.

For this role in Vancouver, the expected base salary range is $80,000–$95,000 CAD per year; your placement in that range depends on how your experience maps to our internal leveling.
