Embrace Legal Group is a trusted legal technology solutions provider within the Embrace portfolio of companies.Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Data Migration & Integration Developer to design, develop, and execute data migration solutions from various source systems into our enterprise applications, including modern relational databases and legacy database platforms.
The ideal candidate will have strong SQL, database analysis, data mapping, and scripting skills, along with the ability to leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate schema analysis, transformation development, troubleshooting, and documentation.
Source databases may vary significantly across customers, so the candidate must be comfortable working with unfamiliar database structures, understanding relationships, identifying data quality issues, and developing reliable transformation processes across different database platforms.
This is a technical, hands-on role that will work closely with our customer-facing implementation team and internal engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
1. Database Analysis & Data Mapping
- Analyze source database schemas from a variety of relational and legacy database systems.
- Understand table structures, relationships, constraints, data types, and dependencies.
- Map source data structures to target database schemas, including PostgreSQL and legacy database platforms.
- Identify data inconsistencies, missing values, duplicates, and potential migration challenges.
- Translate documented business requirements into technical mapping and transformation rules.
- Work with internal stakeholders to clarify mapping requirements and resolve technical gaps.
2. Data Transformation & Migration Development
- Develop and maintain SQL queries, scripts, and ETL processes to extract, transform, and load data across different database platforms.
- Learn, maintain, and enhance existing SQL-based staging and conversion processes used for external system data migrations.
- Build reusable transformation scripts and migration utilities using SQL, Python, or other appropriate technologies.
- Handle complex transformations involving multiple tables, relationships, data formats, and business rules.
- Implement data validation, reconciliation, error handling, and logging.
- Troubleshoot migration failures, performance issues, and data discrepancies.
- Optimize migration processes for large datasets and complex database structures.
3. AI-Assisted Development & Automation
- Actively leverage AI coding assistants to improve the speed and efficiency of data mapping, transformation, and migration development.
- Use AI tools to assist with source schema analysis, SQL generation, Python scripting, debugging, and documentation.
- Independently review, validate, and optimize AI-generated code before execution.
- Identify opportunities to automate repetitive mapping, validation, and migration activities.
- Contribute to building reusable AI-assisted migration workflows and internal tools.
- Follow company data security policies, ensuring customer data is not exposed to unauthorized external AI services.
4. Testing, Validation & Data Quality
- Perform data profiling and quality assessments before migration.
- Validate transformed data against source records and documented business rules.
- Develop reconciliation queries to verify record counts, relationships, financial values, and data integrity.
- Identify and resolve data conversion errors before production migration.
- Support test migrations, production migrations, and post-migration verification.
- Ensure migration processes are accurate, repeatable, and recoverable.
5. Collaboration & Documentation
- Work with the customer-facing implementation team to receive source schemas, requirements, and business rules.
- Collaborate with engineering and database teams to understand destination database structures and conversion requirements.
- Document source-to-target mappings, transformation logic, scripts, assumptions, and validation procedures.
- Maintain reusable migration scripts and technical documentation in version control.
- Support troubleshooting and continuous improvement of existing migration processes.
- Reduce dependency on individual team members by creating standardized and well-documented migration solutions.
Requirements
- 4–7 years of hands-on experience in database development, data migration, ETL, or data integration.
- Strong proficiency in SQL, including complex joins, subqueries, stored procedures, and query optimization.
- Practical experience with PostgreSQL.
- Experience working with at least two other database systems, such as SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, DB2, or legacy relational databases.
- Experience analyzing unfamiliar database schemas and identifying relationships between tables.
- Hands-on experience developing data transformation and migration scripts using Python and SQL.
- Experience handling large datasets, data quality issues, and complex business transformation rules.
- Familiarity with ETL concepts, data validation, reconciliation, and migration best practices.
- Experience using AI-assisted coding tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, GitHub Copilot, or similar tools.
- Ability to independently evaluate and correct AI-generated SQL and scripts.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Good written communication and technical documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment and collaborate with distributed teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Advantage Database Server (ADS) is a plus, but not required.
- Experience with SQL-based staging databases and intermediate data transformation processes.
- Experience building reusable ETL frameworks or automated migration utilities.
- Familiarity with database connectivity technologies such as ODBC and JDBC.
- Experience with AI-assisted workflow automation and scripting.
- Knowledge of PostgreSQL performance tuning, indexing, and bulk-loading techniques.
Benefits
- Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
- Opportunities for career advancement and professional development.
- Experience collaborating with a diverse, global team within a remote work setting.
