Roles & Responsibilities:
Research which focuses on immune dysregulation in human diseases. 1) Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C) is a post SARS-CoV-2 viral inflammatory syndrome of unknown genetic etiology. Similarly, individuals with 2) Down syndrome (DS) present with increased susceptibility to an array of infectious diseases to autoimmunity. Unfortunately, the exact molecular mechanism underlying these immune defects has yet to be elucidated. Finally diseases collectively termed 3) type I interferonopathies are driven by minute increases in the levels of IFN-I cytokines. We are investigating how IFN-Is contribute to disease like MIS-C, Down Syndrome and bone fine type I Interferonopathies.
Responsibilities include molecular characterization utilizing CRISPR technology, luciferase technology and developing new molecular assays. This will also include deep biochemical investigation involving mass spectrometry as well as protein purification and assessment of phosphorylation status using western blot. Finally using single cell RNA sequencing and using CYTOF technology you will perform in depth immunological characterization of IFN-I responsiveness and other inflammatory markers in these disease settings.
