Company Description
Verustruct is developing a suite of robotic construction technologies to automate the building of affordable, sustainable, safe, and aesthetically appealing housing. The company’s mission is to help close the U.S. housing gap of 4.5 million homes by transforming how residential structures are designed and built. Verustruct focuses on integrating advanced robotics, automation, and novel construction methods into practical, scalable solutions. Team members collaborate across disciplines to bring next-generation construction systems from concept to field deployment, with a strong emphasis on real-world impact and long-term sustainability.
About the Role
Own the digital definition in NX/Teamcenter of machines that will build the future.
Verustruct is hiring a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead detailed mechanical design and CAD integration for our robotic construction platform. You will work primarily in Siemens NX and Teamcenter, owning complex parts, mechanisms, drawings, and the structure of an evolving assembly containing more than 10,000 components.
Your work will connect design intent to fabricated hardware: keeping assemblies usable as the platform grows, resolving interfaces between subsystems, communicating motion and assembly sequences, and producing clear manufacturing documentation. You will work closely with mechanical, electrical, robotics, and manufacturing teammates and see your designs through fabrication, assembly, and testing.
This is a full-time, on-site position in Torrance, California.
What You'll Do
Design components and mechanical assemblies in Siemens NX for robotic formwork, locomotion, material handling, consolidation, and related construction systems.
Own the organization and integration of a top-level assembly with 10,000+ components, including subsystem interfaces, assembly constraints, configurations, reference geometry, and clearance envelopes.
Develop robust modeling practices that make designs straightforward to modify, reuse, review, and hand off to other engineers.
Maintain large-assembly performance through appropriate loading strategies, simplified representations, reference sets, and disciplined model organization.
Own day-to-day NX and Teamcenter engineering workflows, including part numbering, CAD and drawing revisions, product structures, bills of materials, release processes, and engineering changes.
Create subsystem motion studies, mechanism animations, exploded views, and assembly sequences to communicate operation and identify interference, access, and serviceability issues.
Produce manufacturing drawings with functional datum schemes, appropriate GD&T, and tolerance requirements grounded in how parts will be manufactured, assembled, and inspected.
Partner with engineers, machinists, fabricators, and suppliers on DFM/DFA, tolerance stack-ups, material selection, and practical fabrication methods.
Resolve discrepancies between CAD and physical hardware and incorporate lessons from builds, tests, and field use into controlled design updates.
Establish reusable templates, standard components, and lightweight design practices that help the entire engineering team work faster.
Requirements
What We're Looking For
Substantial professional mechanical design experience, typically 5+ years, with deep, recent experience in Siemens NX.
Demonstrated ownership of large, complex assemblies with thousands of components and multiple contributing designers.
Practical Teamcenter experience managing engineering data, revisions, product structures, and design releases.
A portfolio of designs that progressed from CAD and drawings to fabricated and assembled hardware.
Strong understanding of mechanical interfaces, fits, tolerances, GD&T, and manufacturing processes.
Experience designing machined parts, sheet-metal components, weldments, or mechanisms and resolving issues directly with manufacturing teams.
Ability to build and communicate mechanism motion, assembly sequences, and maintenance access.
Careful configuration management and documentation habits, paired with the judgment to keep processes proportionate to a fast-moving development team.
A degree in mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
