Senior Associate, Market Engagement Lead - Community Impact & Investment (Dallas)

Capital One, a Fortune 500 company and one of the nation’s top 10 banks, offers a broad spectrum of financial products and services to consumers, small businesses and commercial clients. Our goal is to create one of the nation’s great banks, and we have the necessary ingredients: a strong balance sheet, resilient businesses, a massive customer franchise, strong analytical capabilities, and great people. We nurture a work environment where people with a variety of thoughts, ideas and backgrounds, guided by our shared values, come together to make Capital One a great company – and a great place to work.

Global Enterprise Affairs works with many external and internal stakeholders to envision and create a world of greater socioeconomic opportunity through advocating for an inclusive society, building thriving communities, and creating financial tools that enrich lives. Our teams include Corporate Communications, Community Impact and Investment (CI&I), Community Finance, CRA Strategy and Program Management, the Global Policy Affairs Group, Regulatory Relations, and RISE. Through our teams, we have unparalleled access to a diverse group of motivated changemakers similarly focused on the ingredients for a more perfect future.

Our approach involves focusing on innovation and opportunity related to long term well being for our associates, customers, and communities.  On the intersection between business and social impact.  On disruption and dreaming of a better way.  This is the language of changing things for the better. The Community Impact and Investment (CI&I) team creates impactful community outcomes and positions Capital One as the most strategically bold, innovative, and mission driven financial institution through:

• Fueling strategic community investments (e.g. grants, skills, loans)

• Delivering insights, advice and resources that inform Capital One’s products and services

• Activating the capabilities of “impact forward” associates

The Community Impact and Investment team supports Capital One through leading enterprise volunteerism, conducting market research, fostering community relationships, grant making, originating Community Development Financial/Institution (CDFI) loans and partnering with and advising LOBs.

The Opportunity and Role:

This role plays a critical part in translating community insights into market strategies and philanthropic investments that align with Capital One’s business priorities and community impact goals.

Community Impact and Investment is kicking off a multiyear transformation to increasingly align business strategy and social impact; launch new, different, and more holistic approaches to investing in our communities; use Capital One’s volunteer time and talent in increasingly strategic ways; and use data, analytics, research, and inclusive design to inform more targeted and actionable consulting to our business partners on topics related to a broad view of financial inclusion.

We’re seeking a Dallas-based Senior Associate to support our South-central team. This associate is charged with deeply understanding challenges and opportunities in the Texas geography and bringing that market intelligence to bear to ensure we are investing in high impact programs with demonstrable outcomes and with partners to advance socioeconomic mobility in the community while maximizing impact for Capital One’s reputation and business agenda.

In this role, you’ll be expected to demonstrate proficiency in two key areas:

Gathering Market Intelligence

• You’ll conduct research and market scans to identify, analyze, and vet possible partners across a variety of community organizations including social and nonprofit organizations.

• You’ll engage with partners and nurture relationships to understand how Capital One supports community needs and moves the needle on socioeconomic mobility.

• You will work collaboratively with colleagues across CI&I to monitor and evaluate risks.

Transforming Market Intelligence Into Tangible Impact

• Deliver Compelling Content: You will create presentations and reports to bring market insights to CI&I, Global Enterprise Affairs, and other business lines to inform decision-making.

• Collaborate on Proposals: You’ll partner closely with your market team, your peers on our analytics program team, and other business lines to draft proposals for new market investments.

• Portfolio and Process Management: You’ll manage and evaluate the relationships with the existing portfolio of Texas region community partners and their associated grants. You’ll ensure alignment to the investment strategy and review grant applications.

• Reporting: You’ll drive reporting for the Texas region to monitor Capital One’s community presence, sentiment, and the extent to which we are mobilizing COF resources (time, talent, dollars) to the place of most compelling community need.

• Using Data to Problem Solve: You will use data to understand challenges and proactively recommend solutions. You’ll seek out existing solutions before recommending or creating new ones.

• Tell the Strategy Story: You’ll use adaptive communication to tell the story of Capital One’s South-Central region investment strategy to different audiences.

• Support Strategic Initiatives: You will support strategic initiatives on behalf of Market Engagement.

An Ideal Candidate is:

• Impact-driven: You desire to make the world a better place, and you get energy from working with others with similar passions to accomplish goals.

• Wired for Collaboration and Connection: You thrive in a matrixed organization because you know that together we can do better. You’re obsessed with building and cultivating relationships. You love the chance to share your perspective, to hear the perspectives of others, and to figure out how teams can collaborate.

• Do-er: You’re biased toward action. You are able to execute work autonomously, prioritize effectively when team demands shift, as well as manage up and ask for support when appropriate.

• Intellectually Curious: You ask why, explore, and look to understand the root of the problem being solved. You consistently seek subject matter expertise from communities and partners to inform and strengthen decision-making.

This role involves up to 30% travel as needed.  It also involves attending events before and after normal business hours and overnight trips / conferences.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or military experience

• At least 2 years of experience in project management, process management, project delivery, or a combination
