About the role
We are a dedicated, quality-driven organization committed to delivering excellence across all our operational, engineering, and manufacturing processes. Our Quality Assurance (QA) team ensures that our systems, products, and services meet the highest standards of reliability, continuous improvement, and regulatory compliance under our ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS).
Who We're Looking For
We are seeking a highly experienced, detail-oriented, and autonomous Lead ISO 9001 Internal Auditor with a minimum of 10 years of audit experience to fully own and lead our QMS internal auditing program. In this 20% part-time role (~8 hours per week), you will act as our primary ISO 9001 audit authority, driving risk-based auditing, root cause analysis, non-conformance management, and external audit readiness across the organization.
What You'll Be Doing
As the Lead ISO 9001 Internal Auditor, you will be responsible for end-to-end planning, execution, and oversight of our QMS internal audit program. Working closely with process owners and QA leadership, you will evaluate business processes against ISO 9001 standards, guide corrective actions (CAPA), and ensure our organization maintains continuous readiness for registrar certification and surveillance audits.
What Your Day to Day Is
- Designing, establishing, and executing the annual internal audit schedule covering all applicable ISO 9001 clauses and operational processes
- Focusing weekly part-time hours on targeted, risk-based internal audits across departmental workflows and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Preparing comprehensive audit plans, checklists, working papers, and formal Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs)
- Evaluating organizational processes against ISO 9001 requirements, risk-based thinking, Context of the Organization, and leadership engagement
- Reviewing root cause analyses submitted by process owners and evaluating the adequacy and effectiveness of proposed CAPA plans
- Tracking, verifying, and closing out corrective action plans prior to external registrar audits
- Performing periodic risk-focused quality audits of key suppliers, vendors, and critical subcontractors as needed
- Compiling audit trend reports, QMS metrics, and risk evaluations to feed into executive ISO 9001 Management Review meetings
- Preparing the organization and QA department for ISO 9001 registrar certification, recertification, and surveillance audits
- Serving as a technical liaison and host during external ISO 9001 registrar audits
- Performing other QMS audit and compliance duties as assigned
What You'll Have
- 10+ years of direct experience leading ISO 9001 internal or external quality assurance audits
- ISO 9001 Lead Auditor Certification (IRCA, Exemplar Global, or equivalent required)
- Bachelor's Degree in Quality Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related technical field
- Proven track record of independently designing, establishing, and managing an end-to-end ISO 9001 QMS audit program with complete autonomy
- Expert-level mastery of ISO 9001 standard requirements, Annex SL structure, and process-approach auditing methodologies
- Strong background in non-conformance tracking, root cause analysis methodologies (5 Whys, Fishbone), and CAPA effectiveness verification
- Ability to operate independently, set priorities, and achieve program goals within an 8-hour weekly time commitment
- Strong written and presentation skills required to communicate audit findings constructively to process owners and executive management
- Authorization to work for any US employer
How You'll Stand Out
- Hold additional certifications such as ASQ Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)
- Have experience hosting and navigating successful ISO 9001 registrar certification and surveillance audits
- Possess a practical, pragmatic approach to compliance that balances strict ISO 9001 adherence with operational efficiency without adding bureaucratic overhead
- Demonstrate multi-industry auditing experience spanning manufacturing, engineering, software, or technology operations
What You'll Get Out Of It
- Competitive part-time hourly compensation
- Flexible work arrangement (e.g., 1 full day/week or split across 2 half-days)
- Option for hybrid or remote work flexibility (depending on audit schedule requirements)
- Opportunity to drive quality strategy and continuous improvement in a high-impact ownership role
