Klarna, briefly

At Klarna, we're building an everyday finance network, helping over 120 million consumers across 26 countries save time and money, and worry less about their finances.Working at Klarna means taking on problems most companies never get to solve, and being hands-on enough that the interesting part of the work lands with you, not someone else. You'll build with AI, not watch it happen.

This is the stretch zone. Come find out what you're capable of.

About the role

You'll turn open banking data into credit risk decisions for the French market — decisions Klarna can stand behind and that are fair to our consumers. That means going beyond raw transaction feeds into the signals that actually predict repayment: income and expense patterns, account turnover, and account behavior over time. Depending on your background, this sits closer to underwriting policy (shaping the decision logic itself) or closer to modeling (building what feeds it) — we'll figure out which fits once we understand your experience, and the exact scope may shift as the team's needs do.

France is a market where Klarna is continuously growing, and leaning further into open banking data is the natural next step — you'll be working with transaction-level account data as a primary signal, not a secondary one. You'll work closely with Risk, Product, and regional sales teams to evolve how Klarna underwrites in France and other markets that we operate in, utilizing the power of open banking.

What you'll do

• You'll evolve underwriting policy, the models behind it, or both, depending on where your experience is strongest.

• You'll work with Risk, Product, and regional teams to keep French underwriting aligned with the business and with regulation.

• You'll balance consumer fairness against portfolio performance — too strict costs approvals, too loose costs losses, and you'll own that trade-off.

• You'll turn what the data shows into changes the business actually implements, not analysis that sits in a deck.

• You'll help move Klarna's French underwriting toward a single global decisioning platform.

Who you are

• You've spent 3+ years turning bank account and transaction data into an actual consumer lending decision at a bank, BNPL platform, or consumer finance lender, ideally in the French market specifically.

• You come from engineering, data science, mathematics, or software engineering — or from business or economics, backed by real hands-on bank-based underwriting work.

• You're fluent in French and comfortable working in English, Klarna's working language.

• You're comfortable in SQL and with large datasets.

• You can explain what the data means to people who don't build models for a living.

Things you should know before applying

• Working together: we value co-located teams; most teams currently meet in the office 2–3 days per week, and this varies by team and can change over time.

• Non-obvious backgrounds are welcome. Diversity of skills, perspectives and backgrounds is how we create, innovate, and disrupt like no other.

• Final compensation will be based on the candidate's qualifications, skills, and experience.

• Depending on your background, this could land as an Analyst role or a Data Scientist role — we'll settle the exact title with you once we understand your experience.

Please include a CV in English.
