Senior/Staff Software Engineer – Machine Learning, Gaming & Graphics
Shanghai · Posted 9D AGO
Make a difference in the intelligence, visual quality, and performance of games on billions of Arm-based devices! Join Arm’s Developer Platforms team to bring machine-learning and graphics technologies to mobile games. This role sits within the Strategy and Ecosystems group, helping deliver an outstanding developer experience for graphics and gaming applications on Arm.
We are looking for an inquisitive software engineer who can connect practical machine-learning model development with real-time graphics and game-engine engineering. You will explore the full software stack—from data and training workflows to on-device inference, rendering, and the underlying hardware. The position is based at Arm’s offices in Shanghai.
Responsibilities:
The Senior/Staff Software Engineer will work with Arm partners and internal teams to turn machine-learning and graphics techniques into production-ready solutions for games in China. The role calls for hands-on expertise in model training and evaluation, real-time graphics, and game engines, together with the ability to explain technical trade-offs and collaborate effectively.
- Design, train, fine-tune, and evaluate machine-learning and neural-graphics models for gaming workloads; optimise them for Arm CPU/GPU deployment while balancing visual quality, latency, memory use, and power consumption.
- Build reliable data and model-training workflows, including dataset preparation, augmentation, experiment tracking, benchmarking, and validation using representative game content and workloads.
- Prototype and integrate model-powered graphics techniques—such as neural rendering, super-resolution, denoising, or ray-tracing enhancements—into real-time rendering and game-engine pipelines.
- Profile end-to-end workloads across data processing, training, inference, and rendering; identify bottlenecks and improve runtime integration, model precision, GPU execution, and memory efficiency.
- Work closely with internal teams and game/engine partners, including onsite collaboration, to bring Arm software and ML solutions into popular games and support them from prototype to deployment.
Job Requirements
A successful candidate will be flexible, curious, and comfortable working across machine learning, graphics, and software engineering, with a commitment to extending the breadth and depth of their knowledge.
Education & Qualifications
BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Graphics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Strong programming skills in C/C++ and Python, with experience writing maintainable software.
- Hands-on experience developing, training, and evaluating deep-learning models using PyTorch, TensorFlow, or a comparable framework.
- Sound understanding of model-training fundamentals, including data preparation, model selection, loss functions, optimisation, evaluation metrics, and reproducible experiments.
- Experience with, or proven track record to build, end-to-end AI/ML development workflows, covering dataset and model versioning, training or fine-tuning, experiment tracking, automated evaluation, reproducible pipelines, and model packaging/deployment.
- Strong understanding of computer graphics and real-time rendering, including the graphics pipeline, shaders, and GPU-based workloads.
- In-depth experience with a game engine such as Unreal Engine or Unity, including integrating runtime code or graphics features.
- Experience with Android/mobile software development and a modern graphics API such as Vulkan, DirectX 12, or Metal.
- Strong debugging and profiling skills, an understanding of Arm Mali or other GPU architectures, and clear written and verbal communication in English and Chinese.
“Nice To Have”:
- Experience working with game studios to integrate ML-powered graphics or GPU features into a game engine or shipping title.
- Proven game-development experience, preferably with commercial mobile games and performance-constrained devices.
- Experience with ML inference on edge/mobile devices, including model conversion, quantisation, pruning, or runtime acceleration on Arm platforms.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum and collaborative research-to-product development.
In Return:
You will be supported with training and development in a friendly team that is passionate about technology. Arm offices provide an excellent place to collaborate with colleagues, as well as opportunities to take part in social and volunteering activities.
