Your Role
We are hiring a Lead Engineer to join our Business Operations product team, where you will drive technical strategy across multiple teams while building the internal tools that power Hudl's operations. You will own challenging technical problems at scale, mentor engineers who are excited to grow, and have a direct voice in shaping how we build.
As a Lead Engineer, you will:
- Drive technical strategy at scale. You will define the technical roadmap for major initiatives across our business operations platform, making strategic decisions on architecture, tooling, and technical direction. You will partner with engineering leadership and product stakeholders to ensure our technical choices align with business goals while maintaining long-term maintainability.
- Lead cross-functional engineering initiatives. You will own technical delivery across multiple teams, coordinating dependencies, unblocking challenges, and ensuring we ship with high quality. You will have autonomy to make independent technical decisions in the face of ambiguous requirements, and you will be comfortable working directly with business stakeholders to understand their needs.
- Mentor and level up your engineers. You will actively develop the engineers on your team, providing guidance on craft, design decisions, and career growth. You will set the bar for code quality, best practices, and technical excellence while creating an environment where people feel supported to take on harder problems.
- Own the full lifecycle. You will move beyond feature delivery to think about system health, tech debt reduction, and long-term platform stability. You will identify improvements to the current state of projects and advocate for work that has broader business impact.
- Collaborate and communicate. You will work across Product, Design, and other engineering teams to align on priorities and solve ambiguous problems together. You will represent your team's technical challenges to stakeholders and help others understand why technical decisions matter.
Location
Time spent collaborating with other Hudlies in-office will be a regular part of how you work. We are currently prioritizing applicants within commuting distance of Lincoln, Nebraska or Omaha, Nebraska. You will be expected to work more days in-office than remote, but will have the freedom to coordinate your specific in-office schedule with your team.
Must-Haves
- Experienced at technical leadership. You have 7-10 years building large-scale applications and have demonstrated success driving technical strategy across multiple teams. You understand system design, trade-offs, and how to prioritize technical work that creates business impact.
- A proven mentor. You have led or guided other engineers in their growth. You are comfortable giving honest feedback, setting quality standards, and helping others level up their craft.
- Strong in our tech stack. You have solid experience with .NET and AWS. You understand how these pieces fit together and you are comfortable making architectural decisions that align with our platform.
- User-focused and pragmatic. You care about solving real problems for your users (in this case, internal teams) and you are willing to balance perfect solutions with shipped value. You think about the business context, not just the technical problem.
- An AI first mindset. You establish best practices and patterns for the responsible use of AI within your group. You evaluate new AI-assisted development tools and techniques and drive adoption of those that meaningfully improve your group's effectiveness throughout the development lifecycle.
Nice-to-Haves
- Built internal-facing products. You have shipped tools designed for internal users and understand the nuances of building great experiences when your users are your colleagues. Documentation matters, feedback loops matter, and the experience has to work.
- Experience in business operations or adjacent spaces. You have worked on products that support finance, analytics, HR, or other business functions and understand the workflows and constraints of those domains.
Our Role
- Champion work-life harmony. We’ll give you the flexibility you need in your work life (e.g., flexible vacation time, company-wide holidays and timeout (meeting-free) days, remote work options and more) so you can enjoy your personal life too.
- Guarantee autonomy. We have an open, honest culture and we trust our people from day one. Your team will support you, but you’ll own your work and have the agency to try new ideas.
- Encourage career growth. We’re lifelong learners who encourage professional development. We’ll give you tons of resources and opportunities to keep growing.
- Provide an environment to help you succeed. We've invested in our offices, designing incredible spaces with our employees in mind. But whether you’re at the office or working remotely, we’ll provide you the tech stack and hardware to do your best work.
- Support your mental and physical health. We care about our employees’ wellbeing. Our Employee Assistance Program, employee resource groups and fitness partner Peerfit have you covered.
- Cover your medical insurance. We have multiple plans to pick from to ensure you’ll have the coverage you (and your dependents) want, including vision, dental, fertility healthcare and family forming benefits.
- Contribute to your 401(K). Yep, that’s free money. We’ll match up to 4% of your own contribution.
